The closest airport to Sedona is: Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport.
Sedona
is a two-hour drive north of Phoenix.
From the
airport,
take Interstate 17 [towards "Flagstaff"]. Use Exit
# 298
[Sedona-Oak Creek] and
drive north about 16 miles on
Hwy. 179
to
reach Hwy
89A.
The 7
Centers
Yoga School
where Barbara Marciniak's seminar will be held
is
in West Sedona, so turn LEFT (towards W. Sedona/Cottonwood) and LEFT
again
at the Sunset Drive traffic signal. The
7 Centers address is
2115
Mountain Road
(go to the end of Sunset Drive, turn RIGHT on Shelby
Road and then make the first LEFT into Mountain Road - near the Sedona
Humane Society. There are NO motels within walking distance
of the 7 Centers Yoga School and Barbara Marciniak's Sedona
seminar.
Renting a car at the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport is not difficult but prices vary so widely that it is nearly impossible to predict just what it's going to cost you. Phoenix has also added many local taxes and surcharges to car rentals so be sure you get a 3-day quote that includes these "hidden" charges as they can add up to 25% on to your bill.
I recommend the following Internet web site that has the most comprehensive listing of rental car companies available at the Phoenix airport that I've found to date. Go to: www.bnm.com/phoe.htm.Once connected to the bsm. com site, I suggest you click on to either DOLLAR or NATIONAL car rental agencies and check their prices. They seem to be the best all-around "deals" for a 3-day weekend rental for a mid-size car. Remember that Sedona is 100 miles from Phoenix so you want a decent-size car for Freeway driving.
If anyone finds a better rental car
deal, please e-mail me at (click
here): chetsnow
and
I will post it.
If you don't want to drive, the Sedona
Shuttle has van
service
for round trips from the Phoenix-Sky Harbor Airport. You
MUST
reserve in advance at (928) 282-2066. They normally
depart
the Airport at 10 am, 12, 2,4,& 6 pm. It takes 2 and a
half hours. They will take you to any local Sedona motel.
I do not recommend sleeping in Flagstaff as the road down to Sedona is long, twisty, and difficult or at the I-17 Camp Verde exit as it's a 30 - 45 minute ride. However, if you cannot find accommodations in town, try in Cottonwood (17 miles West of Sedona on Hwy 89A). Sedona is a major tourist
destination and resort town. Even
though
there are only 15,000 permanent residents in the vicinity, we average
over
2 million tourists annually.
Spring Break in March starts our Peak
Tourist
Season. Prices here are not inexpensive. Many hotels
post higher prices on Friday and
Saturday nights. Some
will
give a discount for Sunday. Some
have Internet discounts.
You must phone
or go online for exact 2007 rates. All
quoted rates will
have state and local taxes added. In general,
Central &
Uptown Hotels are more expensive than in West Sedona but there are
exceptions (* =
under $100 a night).
Some of the inexpensive motels
are small but clean and do not have Internet sites or toll free phone
numbers BUT you get the best rates in this expensive town.
West Sedona is
on W. Hwy 89A and both
major Grocery-store shopping centers (Basha's & Safeway) are
located there. It is up the hill going west on Hwy 89A from the
traffic-light intersection with Hwy 179 (turn left at the light if
going north on 179). In general hotel/motels in West Sedona are
a bit less expensive than Uptown (turn right at the light if going
north on 179) but that's not always true. This list does NOT
include all Sedona hotel/motels or Bed and Breakfast places; typically
B&Bs are more expensive in Sedona than motels).
