We'll meet for dinner & overnight at a comfortable Dublin hotel on August 16.  After a city tour the next day, William and Chet will prepare us for an excursion to the timeless sites of ancient Tara and Newgrange in the Boyne Valley.  Tara was once the seat of the Celtic High Kings of Ireland while Newgrange is over 5,000 years old and one of the best-restored examples of a Neolithic chambered tomb aligned to the Winter Solstice so that the rising sun's rays shine deep within its covered passageway. While in Dublin, we'll also explore the historic valley of Glendalough with Saint Kevin's church & tower,  just a few miles south east of the Irish capital.

Kissing the Blarney Stone

Next we'll leave Dublin and drive south-west, passing Saint Brigit's church in Kildare, home of her sacred flame & holy well on our way to Cork.  We'll also see historic Blarney Castle, home of the celebrated Blarney Stone, which legend says confers a "silver tongue" on all who manage to lie upside-down and kiss it.  Watch out for leprechauns in the vicinity!

Gallarus Oratory

After Cork & Blarney, we head west to Killarney to see local sights and enjoy Irish hospitality.
We'll spend 2 nights near Killarney. While there we'll also go to the famed, mystic Gallarus Oratory, a 1,200-year old Irish stone church and to nearby Kilmaldekar with an Ogham stone and Saint Brendan's house.  Irish legend says that 6th Century Saint Brendan left Ireland's Atlantic shores in an animal-skin hulled boat and traveled all the way to what is now North America, so that Irishmen arrived here over 800 years before Christopher Columbus.

Bunratty Castle
From Killarney's lakes we drive across Ireland's beautiful western countryside through charming
Limerick, famous for its Bards and Rhymes, to see St Patrick's holy mountain near world-famous Galway Bay.  En route we'll see the enchanted spot of Lough Gur with its megalithic tomb and stone circles.  Legend says Lough Gur is home to the goddess Aine who takes 3 forms: a mermaid, rising from the lake on enchanted nights; a young maiden who blesses the land and an old crone who defends her territory from unwelcome invaders.  We'll spend our last night together near Dublin, ending this magical-mysteries, sacred journey across the Emerald Isle near its capital's airport.
